Sugar Face Scrub for Dry and Normal Skin
Dry skin can look rough and red. Also, lines and wrinkles are more visible. Just four ingredients are all it takes to have a facial scrub that works just as well as store bought products. Your face will be smooth and look brighter.
Ingredients
½ cup finely ground organic sugar
¾ cup organic plant oil, such as sunflower, apricot, almond or jojoba oil
3 drops of lavender essential oil
3 drops of chamomile essential oil
Directions
Process the organic sugar in food processor or blender for approximately 30 to 45 seconds.
Blend or process the remaining ingredients with the sugar for about 30 seconds. Store the scrub in a jar.
Apply to a slightly moistened face.
Massage over face and neck for at least 30 seconds being careful around sensitive eye tissue.
Rinse your face first with warm water then several times with cold water.
Enjoy your new soft skin.
About the Ingredients
- The reason to blend or process the sugar first is to reduce the size of the granules. The granules should be very fine; organic sugar granules are typically larger than white sugar. Organic sugar is healthier than white sugar and better for the environment.
- Unrefined oils retain many of the plant’s nutrients. So, it’s best to use organic and unrefined oils.
- For maximum benefit of the plant oils, use several together.
- Lavender and chamomile essential oils are widely known for their skin benefits. They heal, soothe, and help to reduce the fine lines.
Oatmeal Face Scrub for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin
The problem with most face scrubs for oily and pimple prone skin is that they’re too harsh. Many people with acne and manufacturers of skincare products think the way to heal acne or reduce oil is to dry the skin out with harsh ingredients.
When the skin gets over-dried, the sebaceous glands that produce skin oil overproduce, making more oil than necessary. In other words, the body overcorrects. It can start a vicious cycle. Overproduction of sebum-produced oil makes the skin oily, blocks pores, and creates bacteria that can lead to pimples.
This oatmeal face scrub recipe is a powder. The ingredients become “activated” when emulsified with water. This scrub is gentle enough to use every day and is also suitable for dry or mature skin.
Ingredients
4 oz flour oatmeal.
4 oz finely ground organic sugar
½ oz rice flour
¼ ounce acacia gum
½ oz lavender herbal powder
½ ounce calendula herbal powder
Directions
As noted above, organic sugar needs to be ground in a blender or food processor until the crystals are fine.
To the sugar add the other ingredients and blend 30 seconds or until thoroughly blended.
Store the face wash in a bottle or that where it can pour out. Using a jar increases the risk of bacteria if wet hands come in contact with it.
To use, pour about a quarter-size diameter of the face scrub into the palm of your hand.
Rub a quarter size of the scrub between damp palms until scrub is mixed. Adjust amount water as necessary.
Massage over face for about 30 seconds. Rinse the scrub off with warm then cold water.

About the Ingredients
- Oatmeal has been used for hundreds of years to soothe and heal skin. Oatmeal flour works the same as colloidal oatmeal and is less expensive.
- Fine ground organic sugar is an economical and safe exfoliant.
- Rice flour works the same way as rice powder and is less expensive. Rice flour is a natural absorbent. Reduce the amount of rice flour if the face scrub is too drying for you.
- Acacia gum not only binds the ingredients together once emulsified, but it also has healing properties. It’s known as an anti-inflammatory and soothes the skin. Both benefits are good for acne-prone skin.
- Lavender and calendula are both good for skin; they help to heal and calm the skin.
Notes
- The reason for using finely ground sugar is twofold: More skin gets exfoliated with smaller grains. Smaller particles prevent scratching and tearing the skin.
- Jojoba beads are another natural exfoliant. They are made from the jojoba plant.
- How often you use a facial scrub is dependent on your skin. Many people exfoliate daily. But at the minimum, use a facial scrub at least twice a week for best results.
Control what goes on your skin by making your own face scrub. You will know the quality and what kinds of ingredients are in it. With many manufactured products, these are not a guarantee. Additionally, DIY face scrub is economical and better for the environment. Many commercial exfoliants contain chemicals that are harmful to the environment. If they are bad for the environment, they’re not good for your skin.
